Jalopy Joes Car Show

Our little beach town hosts a handful of car shows like the Beatnik Blowout (formally Back to the Beach), Ventura Nationals (formerly Primer Nationals)...actually funny story about the "formerly" on those 2 shows, a car-lovin' husband and wife couple used to put them on... but gossip says they got divorced and they "split" the shows but neither could use the existing names.  So the have morphed into those different-but-the-same car shows.  Now, as far as I know the upcoming Johnny Cash Music Festival, which also hosts a car show was taken over by the ex-wife as well.  I'm not really in the circuit, but that's what I've heard.  Who knew there could be so much drama in car shows!

One show that is humble and so far drama free is the annual "Big" Show put on by Jalopy Joe's Speed Shop in Ventura.  They are a buncha true locals who love cars and music and pin-up girls!  My downstairs neighbor Stephanie entered herself into the Pin-Up contest and her car, Shirley into the "Best Girl Driver & Car" category.  Me and my car Lucy went along to show support!  Here are some pics from the day's events!

Stephanie & Ray with Stephanie's Car, Shirley the '65 Ford Falcon

Me and my car, Lucy a '63 Dodge Dart Station Wagon

There were TONS of AMAZING cars there and there were TONS of Pin-Up girls entered into the contest.

Some of the Cars

Here is Stephanie giving a cute Pin-Up Pose in front of an old station wagon.  I took pictures of all the other wagons, there were quite a few other than my Lucy!

The Pin-Ups

Here is Stephanie introducing herself to the crowd.  There were probably over 40 girls in the contest!

Here are all the girls from the over 18 category, they also had a juniors pin-up contest too which I think is kinda weird.  Underage girls shouldn't be trying to look so sexy!  Another disturbing trend is the total "trampy" pin-up look.  Some girls were actually turned away for being in their underwear.  Pin-ups are supposed to epitomize the wholesome-yet-sexy all American girl of the 40's & 50's.  I'm glad they were regulating that at this show!

Here is the winning Pin-Up with her two sons.  She also got one of the "Lady-Owned" car awards and a nice chunk of change for the Pin-Up contest.

Now, before all you lovely non-car lovin' readers fall asleep.....
here is the coolest damn vintage trailer I have ever seen!

Don't mind me, I'm just dreaming this was my trailer!

It is an Aristocrat, I believe the owner said it was a '69.  Wait till you see the inside, its all Tiki'd Out!

The view towards the back of the trailer....

The view towards the front of the trailer...

Some of the details...

...and check this out, its something I have NEVER EVER seen before...
The owner of the trailer had two of these flamingos displayed with it.  The bones are molded into the plastic which means somebody, somewhere is mass producin' these macabre flamingos!  I want some!!!

Now here is Stephanie saying Aloha from Jalopy Joe's and see ya next time!

  6. Girls and cars. Man, there's definitely something stylish about that combination! The style of the classic cars match the beauty of the women quite well, who in turn dress for the occasion to truly introduce a sense of vintage in the event. It makes one heck of a car show, right? Very retro!

  7. Awesome event! The classic cars and the 60's dress of the ladies certainly brought back that retro ambiance. Anyway, I like how the owners preserved the trademark white walls of the classic cars, it's really good to see that they still love that classy vintage looks. Kudos to the organizer of this event!

  9. Vintage cars along with ladies dressed in clothes inspired by the era of 1940s and 1950s quite make an excellent combination, eh? Those two really exemplified the word "vintage." :D
